We believe that our philanthropic goals extend beyond the dollars we donate. We strive to raise awareness about the causes we care about, engage our members’ passions, and invest in the community around us. Every Beta woman is expected to make a personal time commitment to our philanthropic efforts throughout their time at Northwestern.
In the fall, we have Heart Health Week culminating in Red Dress Gala, a campaign centered around educating the campus community about women's heart health. Proceeds from Heart Health Week and Red Dress Gala go to the Alpha Phi Foundation, our national nonprofit supporting women's heart health research as well as Alpha Phi alumni in times of hardship.
Our spring philanthropy is a campus-wide initiative, a Phlea Market where students donate their clothes to be resold on Memorial Day weekend. The proceeds went to Planned Parenthood in 2019, but we will update the beneficiary of most of our philanthropies each year to reflect the interests of our members.
We also held Sweet as can Phi, selling cotton candy on campus. The money raised goes to an organization of our choice, such as Planned Parenthood or the American Cancer Society.
In the winter, we recently launched a new Valentine’s Day Grams initiative that raised funds for our new community partner, Connections for the Homeless. We packaged notes, roses, and chocolate covered strawberries to deliver to students’ friends and loved ones.
